Dr Andrew Smith​

MBBS, MSc, FRANZCO

Dr Smith has been serving the north side of Brisbane for over ten years. His special interests include cataract surgery, pterygium surgery, macular degeneration and medical retinal diseases, oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma and general ophthalmology.

 

Dr Smith was a graduate of the University of Queensland Medical School in 1997 and undertook his residency training in Northern Queensland and  Brisbane. In 1999 to 2000, Dr Smith taught anatomy at Trinity College, Dublin. He achieved a Masters in Science research degree in Anatomy, whilst at Trinity College, Dublin, for which he received a Trinity College Postgraduate Award. He completed his advanced training in ophthalmology in Queensland in 2007. Following this he had further fellowship training in oculoplastic surgery in the United Kingdom at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, University of Cambridge, and also at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

 

Dr Smith is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS). He has presented at, and regularly attends, national and international conferences to keep up to date with the latest advances in ophthalmology. Dr Smith also gives regular clinical updates to Optometrists and General  Practitioners.

 

Dr Smith worked as a visiting medical officer at the Princess Alexandra Hospital from 2009 to 2016. He has been actively involved in the teaching of registrars and medical students. He was awarded the prestigious Trainer of Excellence award from RANZCO in 2010. Dr Smith was on the organising committee for RANZCO QLD Branch annual conference from 2010 to 2016. He was also the Young Fellow representative on the RANZCO QLD branch committee from 2010 to 2014.
