YAG Laser Capsulotomy

Treatment of capsule clouding after cataract surgery

This laser is used to treat clouding of the capsular bag, or posterior capsular opacification, which occurs in approximately 10% of people after cataract surgery. This is called a YAG capsulotomy.

The procedure takes place in the rooms at Northpoint Eye Care. Your eye is anaesthetised with drops and the procedure doesn’t hurt. It is well-tolerated by most people with minimal side effects and risks. You may be given drops to take for a week following the procedure, to help to prevent macular swelling. You will need a support person to drive you home from the procedure. Follow-up will be arranged with your ophthalmologist or optometrist.
