This laser is used in the treatment of acute glaucoma, called an Iridotomy. The laser creates a hole in the iris to provide a “shortcut” for fluid to flow in the eye, lowering the intraocular pressure.
The procedure takes place in the rooms at Northpoint Eye Care. Your eye is anaesthetised with drops and the procedure doesn’t hurt. It is well-tolerated by most people with minimal side effects and risks. You may be given drops to take for a week following the procedure, to help to prevent inflammation. You will need a support person to drive you home from the procedure. Follow-up will be arranged with your ophthalmologist.
