Is your vision distorted and blurred?
This can be a sign of an issue with your retina, on the back of your eye. There are several treatable causes and early detection is vital. The main problem is usually with the macula. This is the central part of the retina that is responsible for detecting fine detailed vision. The commonest causes include epiretinal membrane, vitreo-macular traction and macular degeneration.
Epiretinal membranes, vitreomacular traction and macular hole are conditions that will require surgery, usually with and operation called vitrectomy. Macular degeneration will often require intervention in the form of intravitreal therapy – an injection administering a medicine into your eye to help to stop progression. Although these treatments sound intimidating, most people will tolerate these treatments very well.
Early detection and intervention is the key to the best possible outcome. Many people will notice that their vision has changed by accidentally covering one eye. Distortion can be seen by looking at straight lines such as the lines on the road, powerlines, louvers, doorframes or fences. The most accurate way is by looking at and Amsler grid which is a special grid used as a tool to detect and monitor macular issues. Accurate assesment and treatment can be undertaken at Northpoint Eye Care.
