Have you noticed flashing lights in your vision recently?
These often feel like a lightning flash in the far periphery of your vision – usually out to the side. Alternatively they can resemble a camera flash going off in your peripheral vision. You may also notice cobwebs or insect like floaters in your vision. These can be small or large and they generally move around and bobble in your vision. You may also notice a hazy or dark curtain as well that covers part of what you can see, again this is usually in your peripheral or side vision.
If you do have any of these symptoms then it is best that you are seen urgently for a complete retinal examination. These symptoms may be a sign of a detached vitreous – the jelly in your eye. This can lead to a tear in your retina or even a detachment of your retina. This can be a serious condition that may lead to loss of vision.
We welcome Dr Gurmit Uppal to Northpoint Eye Care. Dr Uppal is a highly regarded vitreo-retinal surgeon who will be able to manage your retinal detachment to ensure the best possible outcome for your vision.
